Research Interest Statement
Nadine Marks’ NIA FIRST Award provided the impetus for a program of research exploring links between life course social inequalities, psychosocial factors and health. During the past five years she completed a project as part of the UW-Madison’s Center for Mind-Body Interaction, supported by NIMH, and now continues with a NIA-funded project investigating these issues using data from three large population sample surveys (Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, National Survey of Families and Households, National Survey of Midlife in the United States). Results from these projects have contributed new U.S. longitudinal population evidence for social inequalities in physical health and mental health and psychosocial processes that underlie these inequalities. Exploring components of the project’s overall biopsychosocial conceptual model, this program of work has also contributed numerous studies demonstrating the importance of social relationships and social well-being for both mental health and physical health.
