Resources for Visitors

The Social Science Computing Cooperative provides computing services for the social sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Some services are available only to those affiliated with the SSCC's member agencies, but others are available to the broader campus community.

For members of the Cooperative, the SSCC's core offerings are powerful and convenient-to-use servers (especially Winstat), a wide variety of software (especially statistical software used in the social sciences), support for personal computers (both Macs and PCs), and our Help Desk (including help using statistical software).

The SSCC Knowledge Base is available to anyone. Some articles explain how to use SSCC resources, like email or Condor. Others discuss statistical software, including general introductions to Stata and SAS and guides to specific topics like bootstrapping in Stata.

SSCC training classes are free and available to anyone in the UW community. Topics include statistical software and other research tools.

The SSCC also supports University classes in the Social Science Division. Our resources for instruction include a computer classroom and computer labs with statistical software installed, access to Winstat for running statistical software from home, and staff assistance for both instructors and students. Graduate students in the Social Science division can also be given lab accounts for their research work.

Membership in the SSCC is available to departments and research agencies (not individuals) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. If you're interested email SSCC Director Nancy McDermott (mcdermot@ssc.wisc.edu).

If you have any questions about the SSCC, feel free to contact the SSCC Help Desk.
