Students can easily access SSCC servers from their own devices, 24/7 and from anywhere in the world.
Winstat is the SSCC’s Windows Remote Desktop Server cluster. Students can log in to Winstat and run statistical programs on our powerful servers with access to network storage. For more information, please see Using Winstat.
The SSCC has several physical locations within Sewell Social Sciences that can be reserved for a single class or an entire semester.
3218 Sewell Social Sciences Building is our primary classroom. It has 30 PCs, a ceiling-mounted projector and supplemental display connected to an instructor station, and sound and microphone capabilities. The PCs have software installed that allows the instructor to control or interact with the students’ computers. Computers can be easily configured to block network and program access for exams.
A Mobile Lab of 30 laptops configured identically to our lab computers is available for any class or workshop that meets in Sewell Social Sciences. A projector is provided with the mobile lab if needed.
If you are teaching in the Sewell Social Sciences Building and relying on student laptops (bring-your-own-device), you can arrange to have a few of the Mobile Lab laptops available for any students who do not have a suitable laptop or run into problems with their laptop.
2470 Sewell Social Sciences is available for use with the Mobile Lab or bring-your-own-device. It can accommodate up to 18 students and includes an instructor station with a ceiling-mounted projector.
SSCC Computers have a rich set of statistical software installed, some of which are not found anywhere else on campus. For a complete list, see our software page.
The SSCC Help Desk is available to you and your students for any technical issues you may encounter using our computer labs or remote services, including account issues, software installation, and remote connection problems. Our staff can provide an in-class orientation to SSCC resources for your students to guide them through accessing and using our resources.
SSCC Staff is also available to teach guest lectures or workshops on a variety of statistical and data science topics, from introductions to software such as Stata to advanced data science and statistical techniques. If you are interested in scheduling a workshop, please contact the SSCC Help Desk to speak with our statistical consultants.
SSCC’s Statistical Consulting services are available to your students to assist with any technical or statistical questions your students may encounter. Students are welcome to make appointments with our statistical consultants or visit their drop-in hours.
