They are shelved as Reserves and may be checked out for overnight or weekend use. Library hours are 9-4:30 Mon-Fri; users should find this more accessible. One set of non-circulating manuals is in the consulting office (2470) for use during the hours the consulting office is open. This change does NOT affect the software manuals available for CDE members in the CDE Data Library in Soc. Sci. 4470. -------------------- New SSC Publications -------------------- The following new publications are available for SSC users: How to Access WordPerfect on UNIX (#27) How to Manage your UNIX Jobs (#29) How to Avoid Running out of Disk Space when Using SAS and SPSS on UNIX (#30) SSC publications are available in the racks in the public terminal room, Soc. Sci. 2470. ---------------------------------------------- Priority List for SSC Technical Services Group ---------------------------------------------- The SSC Technical Services group of the SSC Co-op is responsible for the management and configuration of the computer systems and networks. This group includes Beth Wiebusch (manager), Marcia Hazen, Elliott Long, Darwin Thielman, and Bill Palenske. These people as you probably know are extremely busy and have many projects they are either currently working on or plan to work on in the future. The SSC Steering Committee recently put together a priority list for these projects that is available for your review. A printed copy is in the I/O room (Soc. Sci. 441a) and an on-line version is in SSCGOPHER. If you would like to recommend any changes to this priority list, please contact your Steering Committee representitive. ------------------------------------------------------------ Laser Printer connected to HARMON in I/O Room has been Moved ------------------------------------------------------------ Due to the Sociology move to Ingraham Hall, the laser printer that was connected to the Harmon workstation had to be removed. You may still print from Harmon, but your output will be printed on a laser printer in the computer room. This also means the printout from tape directories will go the one of the printers in the computer room. When the operator retrieves printout, he or she will file it in a folder in the laser output rack labeled IOROOM. This is because output from Harmon does not show the username of the person who submitted the job. Please check any output you take from the IOROOM folder to make sure it is your own. ---------------------------------------- Printing to the printer in Ingraham Hall ---------------------------------------- To print to the printer in Ingraham Hall, use the following syntax: Ascii printout (mail, etc) $ PRINT/QUEUE=INGRAHAM Postscript printout $ PRINT/QUEUE=INGRAHAM_PS From word perfect, select the INGRAHAM printer under Print. -------------------------------- Consulting Question of the Month -------------------------------- How do I forward my mail from VMS to an Internet address? --------------------------------------------------------- In VMS Mail, type SET FORWARD At the prompt _Address: type: EUNICE::"""username@internet.address""" You can also type the command all on one line. For example: SET FORWARD EUNICE::"""smith@students.wisc.edu""" There are two important points about forwarding to an Internet address: 1. Do not use the form JNET% or IN% in the forwarding address. This form of addressing only works from some SSC nodes. If the sender is on a node where the form doesn't work, he or she will not be able to send you mail. 2. Use three sets of quotes in the forwarding address. Think of this as quoting the quotes. Using only one set of quotes (the way Internet mail is normally formatted) will not be recognized properly by the computer. To check your forwarding address, type SHOW FORWARD. To see if the forwarding address works, send mail to yourself. TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS NEWSLETTER, just reply to this mail message indicating you want to unsubscribe. We will remove you from the distribution list for future electronic mailings. If you ever change your mind, just notify the SSC Consultant or send mail to SSCNEWS asking to get back on the list.
