Stata, SAS, R, Matlab, and Wordpress classes begin this month. Visit our training page for details and to register.
A second round of R and Stata classes are scheduled for the last week of August, so even if you're leaving Madison for the summer you may be able to fit in the training you'll need for the coming year before classes start.
We have added ArcGIS to Winstat. ArcGIS is used for working with geographical data. It's also available on the lab PCs.
Here's one more reminder that your current WiscCal calendar will be retired on Saturday, and the new calendar will be available on Monday. Read last month's SSCC News article for more information and for how WiscCal will work with your SSCC email. You may also want to read DoIT's article on how to get started with the new WiscCal.
The software manuals circulated by the CDE library are now in the help desk area of 4226 Sewell Social Sciences. These manuals are available for short term loan. Note that SSCC no longer purchases many manuals because most are now available online or within the program itself.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, you may be able to save yourself a lot of typing when reporting a problem to the help desk by attaching a screen shot of what went wrong to your email.
In Windows 7, the built-in program for taking screen shots is called the "snipping tool" and you can start it by clicking the Windows logo button and typing snipping tool in the search box. Select the area you want to take a picture of and then click Save.
In Mac OS 10.5 or later, press the Command key (⌘), the Shift key, and the 3 key at the same time and a picture of the entire screen will be saved on your desktop in a file named screenshot-date-time.png. If you press Command-Shift-4 instead, you will be given a cross-hair that you can use to select an area of the screen for the picture.
