Introduction to Stata

Stata is the most popular statistical software at the SSCC, as it is both very powerful and relatively easy to learn. In this class you'll learn the basics of using Stata. We spend a good bit of time on Stata's underlying structure and logic so you'll come away with the ability to get Stata to do whatever you need it to do, not just run the commands we cover. We'll also discuss how to ensure your work is fully reproducible, so you won't have to change any bad habits when you start doing research.

Do not sign up for both "Introduction to Stata" and "Stata for Researchers." Introduction to Stata is primarily intended for students who need to use Stata in their classes, but either aren't doing research yet or don't anticipate doing much quantitative research. If you are currently doing quantitative research, take Stata for Researchers instead. It includes all the material covered in this class plus additional material on statistics and data preparation and management that is vital to most research projects. New graduate students may choose to take Introduction to Stata initially and then Stata for Researchers when they're ready to start doing research, or just take Stata for Researchers to begin with.
