Stata Workshop: First Steps with your Data

In this workshop, we'll use the year 2000 American Community Survey to demonstrate the first steps a researcher should take with a new data set to both understand it and clean it up for research use. In the process we'll introduce some key data science concepts as well as practical Stata skills.

This workshop is a section from the new Data Wrangling in Stata course, and you should not sign up for this workshop if you are taking that course. This workshop is primarily intended for people who recently took Stata for Researchers, as it contains a large fraction of the new material that differentiates Data Wrangling in Stata from Stata for Researchers.
