Testing Data Wrangling Code in Stata

One of the hardest questions to answer about a piece of code is also one of the simplest: "Is this right?" Whether your code was written by yourself, a collaborator, or AI, you need to be able to confidently say "Yes, this is right" about the code that implements your research.

This workshop will teach you some simple techniques for testing data wrangling code, implemented in Stata. This includes:

  • Spot checking (and knowing what to spot check)
  • Tracking summary statistics
  • Creating test datasets

The advent of AI that can write code did not create the need for testing, but it does make that need more urgent.
