WLS Codebooks
Note: Codebooks contain frequency data from the private data release. For some variables, these differ from the frequencies in the public release. Variables that differ between the public and private versions include "(not available on public release)" as part of the variable description, or a note indicating the difference between the public and private versions.
In Person: Access to and Utilization of Health Care
JACUTIL Access to and Utilization of Health Care Module OVERVIEW Although primarily composed of replicated questions from the 2004 CATI interview's "Access to Health Care and Insurance" section, the 2011 Access to and Utilization of Health Care Module did not prompt participants to report on the previously addressed topics of health insurance coverage, plan characteristics, or associated costs; for such information, please see the newly introduced "Health Insurance Coverage" section of the 2011 mail survey. This module exclusively focuses on visits to medical and mental health professionals within the last twelve months, as well as the participant's history with their usual source and provider of health care (including details such as provider type and medical specialty). Questions about why the participant switched to their current source and provider of health care were not carried forward for the 2011 wave. For information about the nature of our health care access and utilization data at prior collection waves, please see Appendix P (CORs 845 and 971). No new documentation specifically related to this module was added to the appendix for the 2011 wave. BRIEF VARIABLE DESCRIPTIONS Variable ranges reference dataset/codebook order and are not necessarily alphabetical. _____________________________________________________________________ HACUSTAT-HACUREL: Module-Level Status Variables HSU00RE-HSUSCREC: Indicators for Whether Participant Has a Usual Medical Facility They Go to for Health Care HSU10RE: Type of Medical Facility Participant Usually Goes to for Health Care HSU27REA-HSU27REB: How Long Participant Has Been Going to Their Usual Medical Facility for Health Care HSU51REC-HSU52RE: Indicators for How Frequently Participant Sees the Same Provider for Health Care at Their Usual Medical Facility HSU35RE: Type of Provider Participant Usually Sees for Health Care at Their Usual Medical Facility HSU53REA-HSU53REB: Professional Classification and Medical Specialty of Participant's Usual Provider of Health Care HSU56REA-HSU56REB: How Long Participant Has Been Seeing Their Usual Provider for Health Care HSU58RE-HSU60RE: Indicators for Whether Participant Has Seen or Needed to See Health Professionals in the Past 12 Months
