Revised Desktop Support Policy

SSCC's desktop support policy has been updated to more accurately describe the services we provide and to broaden the scope of the policy to include Linux and Mac desktops. It also now describes services we provide for home networks and broadband connections. Please take a few minutes to review this policy.

Remaining Tape Media in Computer Room to be Returned to Owners

SSCC staff are in the process of boxing up the remaining 3480 cartridges, worm platters, and 9-track tapes that are in the Computer Room and will be returning them to their owners within the next month. Tapes owners will be contacted to arrange a time for taking delivery of their tapes. Once this project is completed, SSCC's PC repair operations will be relocated from 2416 to the Computer Room.

The self-serve "tapestation" which has been in the I/O Room (4411A) since VMS was being phased out in 1998 is still alive and well. You can use it to read and copy 9-track, 3480, and 8mm tapes created on VMS systems in the past. We plan to keep this equipment as long as it is needed and is in repairable condition. Please see Charlie Fiss in the CDE Data Library if you need assistance with the tapestation.
